The Dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

How can we be the change we want to see? Are you willing to do everything for a dream?

February has been designated as Black History Month, and it must be celebrated with the same enthusiasm that we celebrate other important events. Also, we must be aware of and give recognition to the many contributions African Americans have made in the United States. Many great accomplishments have been downplayed for decades. Even today, black history is still being made as many milestones and new achievements/goals have been accomplished.

Our history is part of our past that has enabled us to grow socially and politically stronger and know exponentially more about the struggles and strengths of our ancestors. To some, history is our thing to be remembered. At the same time, to some, it is something to be proud of. Many continually do what their ancestors started. Although not all of our history is good, we must study and learn from it. Remember that being part of history is something, but being part of a good history is more rewarding.

In this solo episode, Dr. Derrick Burgess will share one of his first major speaking engagements from five years ago. This inspirational speech was from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Foundation, where he was once a scholar student. Tune in today as we discover the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, as well as Dr. Burgess' goal growing up as a young child wanting to become a physician.

"I'm a living testimony that any senior in the audience here tonight, my children, your children, any adolescent can know that their dreams are achievable, that dreams are possible. Having dreams and manifesting them is possible." – Dr. Derrick Burgess
